Luca Comastri was born in Bologna in 1984. He is an actor, playwright, and mask-maker who works both in Italy and abroad.
His background is centered on comedy, physical theatre, and particularly commedia dell’arte. Since 2006 he has acted in various films and has performed in theatres in Italy and abroad, in Valencia, Bordeaux, Monaco, Bruxelles, Avignon, and various cities of Japan.
He teaches in several theatre schools and in commedia dell’arte schools in Italy and abroad.
Since 2012, he has been writing and staging his own pieces of theatre.
Since 2013, he has been collaborating with Fraternal Compagnia, participating with them in festivals and international productions, as well as educational projects focused on commedia dell’arte.
“Saltimbanco” is an Italian traditional word for a street performer, and this quality has characterized Luca’s work, as he often mixes juggling, music, acrobatics, masks, and interaction with the audience in his performances.
He has been heavily influenced by his professors, Dal Farra and Benassi, the Colli theatre school (led by Emanuele Montagna), Teatro Aperto/Teatro Dehon, the casa dei Risvegli Luca De Nigris, Avner Eisenberg, Genadi Bogdanov, Domenico Lannutti, and Alessandra Cortesi and the Fraternal Compagnia.
